Location: Remote (CET working hours)  Type: Full-time  Experience: 4–5+ years  Platform: Unity (PC-focused)

About Scape

Scape is a creative platform where players and creators come together to build and explore interactive worlds. We are a small, highly collaborative team building both the platform and our own internal experiences to define quality, direction, and best practices for creators.

Because we are a small company, roles at Scape are broad, hands-on, and production-focused. You will not just design on paper, you will take levels all the way from greybox to shippable, polished content inside Unity.

The Role

We are looking for a Level Designer / Game Designer who is comfortable owning the entire lifecycle of a small game: from early level blockout and gameplay iteration, through art replacement, sound placement, and final polish.

This is a hybrid role combining level design, game design, and a strong amount of practical world-building. You will work directly in Scape every day and be responsible for how levels look, sound, and feel when they ship.

What You’ll Do

  • Block out and iterate on levels using greyboxing and rapid prototyping in Scape
  • Take levels from greybox to final quality by:
  • Replacing greybox geometry with final art assets
  • Dressing levels with props, set dressing, lighting, and visual polish
  • Help define what art and sound assets are needed to support gameplay and level goals
  • Work closely with artists to communicate asset needs, constraints, and usage
  • Place, tune, and iterate on sound assets (ambience, one-shots, gameplay sounds) directly in levels
  • Own moment-to-moment gameplay: pacing, flow, difficulty, player guidance, and readability
  • Contribute to the design and iteration of core gameplay systems such as:
  • Movement and traversal
  • 3Cs (character, camera, controls)
  • Core mechanics and interactions
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure designs are feasible, performant, and feel great in-game
  • Playtest frequently and iterate based on feedback from peers.
  • Help establish internal best practices for level building, world dressing, and gameplay polish at Scape

What We’re Looking For

  • 4–5+ years of professional experience in level design and/or game design
  • Strong, hands-on experience building and polishing levels in Unity
  • Experience with 3D platformers or traversal-heavy gameplay
  • A can do attitude
  • At least one shipped game (PC, console, or mobile)
  • Proven experience taking levels from greybox to final, shippable quality
  • Comfortable working directly with art and sound inside the engine
  • Good understanding of gameplay fundamentals: flow, pacing, difficulty, and player readability
  • Some experience contributing to system design (movement, mechanics, player abilities)
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership in a small team

Nice to Have

  • Experience working on small or indie teams where roles overlap
  • Technical design experience or close collaboration with engineering
  • Experience with multiplayer or systemic gameplay

How We Work

  • Fully remote, with collaboration primarily during CET working hours
  • Small team, high trust, and high ownership
  • Strong focus on iteration, playtesting, and shipping
  • Minimal bureaucracy – quality and clarity matter more than process
