Fully Remote, Contract

About Brink

Brink is a Stockholm-based game and technology studio building Scape, a genre-agnostic platform focused on creative, social, and expressive play. Scape is designed as a living world where multiple game experiences coexist, evolve, and share a unified visual and systemic foundation.

We are a small, senior team that values ownership, clarity, and speed. We prefer strong direction over heavy process, and we care deeply about visual cohesion and long-term quality.    Brink is looking for a senior Lead 2D Artist to own and safeguard the visual style of our platform Scape and its first flagship experiences, including Gravity.

This is a fully remote role with strong emphasis on visual ownership, clarity, and long-term consistency. You will be responsible for defining, maintaining, and evolving the visual language of the product at its foundation.

This role is hands-on and creative, not a people management position.

About the role

As Lead 2D Artist, you are the primary visual owner of Scape’s style. Visual direction starts in 2D, and you will own the Art Bible, style guides, and core visual definitions that shape everything built on top of the platform.

You will work closely with our Lead 3D Artist and the wider team to ensure visual intent is clear, consistent, and realistically translated into production.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the Art Bible and all visual style documentation for Scape and Gravity
  • Define and evolve the core visual language, including shape language, colour, tone, proportion, and overall aesthetic
  • Create clear visual guidelines, references, examples, and do and do not material
  • Act as final authority on visual alignment and consistency
  • Review and give direction on 2D assets created internally and by external contributors
  • Produce key 2D assets where needed, including concept art, paintovers, UI assets, iconography, and reference material
  • Support other artists through strong visual direction rather than heavy process
  • Collaborate closely with the Lead 3D Artist to ensure faithful translation of 2D intent into 3D assets and in‑engine results
  • Maintain cohesion across multiple experiences while allowing each one its own identity
  • Protect visual consistency over time as contributors and content scale

Working with AI

We actively use AI-assisted workflows as part of our creative process.

You should be comfortable using AI tools to explore ideas quickly, generate visual variations, and accelerate early iteration, and then apply strong artistic judgment and manual skill to bring assets to final production quality.

AI is used as a tool to increase speed and exploration, not as a replacement for taste, intent, or craft.

What we are looking for

  • Proven professional experience working on games is required
  • Senior experience as a 2D artist, concept artist, or visual lead within game development
  • Strong understanding of game visuals and how style supports gameplay, readability, and performance
  • Unity experience is preferred
  • Comfortable working with AI-assisted tools for concepting and iteration
  • Able to iterate quickly using AI and then refine and finalise work by hand
  • Strong artistic judgment when selecting, modifying, or discarding AI-generated output
  • Strong fundamentals in composition, colour, readability, abstraction, and visual clarity
  • Able to analyse other games and clearly articulate why their visual styles work or do not work
  • Good familiarity with games such as Fortnite, Valorant, and Overwatch from a visual and stylistic perspective
  • You do not need to have worked on these titles, but you must understand their visual language and design intent
  • Passion for games and active interest in contemporary game visuals
  • Comfortable owning visual decisions and standing behind them
  • Experience working with small or mid-sized teams where personal ownership matters
  • Able to collaborate pragmatically with 3D artists and technical teams
  • Comfortable both creating assets and guiding others through feedback

Working setup

  • Fully remote position
  • Long-term contract or freelance engagement
  • Full-time, 8 hours per workday
  • European candidates are expected to start at 09:00 CEST
  • For other time zones, 11:45 CEST is the latest possible start time
  • You must be able to reliably work within these hours
  • Lunch is taken on your own time
  • Compensation aligned with seniority and local market rates

What this role is not

  • Not a people manager role
  • Not an execution-only position
  • Not a traditional AAA Art Director role with heavy hierarchy

This role is about ownership, clarity, speed, and long-term visual integrity.
